Vietnamese artist Le Van Anh’s family has been carving stone for generations. Anh, who originally trained as an opera singer, hoped to put his own stamp on that tradition. “I wanted the images to look real on stone,” he explains.
After years of perfecting his stone painting technique, Ha has created a collection of stone art inspired by nature that lives up to his goal. The blossoms and leaves that adorn the hand-carved soap stone boxes seem as if they’ve just been plucked from the garden, while the play of light on colors extracted from nature make Anh’s vivid fish, cranes and crickets come alive.
These natural soap stone boxes, which range in size from a tea box to a jewelry box, are available exclusively through Hebi Arts. Each piece of unique stone is carved, sanded, washed, painted with a master’s precision and then treated with a sealer to make sure its beauty never fades.
